National Day of Prayer, Florence Nightingale, and Wave Bottles

To celebrate Nurses Day yesterday, the boys and I completed a free mini lesson about Florence Nightingale with our new school, The American Heritage Family School.  It was so interesting!  Florence Nightingale was so beautiful, both inside and out and contributed so much to the field of nursing.  She is such an inspiration and example of Christ-like service.  It is still Nurse Appreciation week and I highly recommend that you do this lesson with your children.  You can access it here.

We also thanked all of our nursing family and friends on Facebook!

We had our nature lesson outside!  It was such a beautiful day!  We really love our nature notebooks from The Good and the Beautiful!  You can download one for free as a gift from them during the COVID-19 crisis.  Both you and your kids will love it!  You can download it here.

We made wave bottles as part of our Growing Up Literature lesson with the American Heritage Family School yesterday! We analyzed the story of Jesus walking on water. We learned about a setting, a plot, and alliteration. There was also a wonderful coloring page included of the miracle of Jesus walking on water. The boys really enjoyed this lesson!

I also discovered last night - by reading several articles - that I am not the only homeschooling parent that believes in homeschool uniforms!  There are lots of us out there!  School uniforms help your children get into "school mode" every day and focus on their learning.  It is actually much less expensive to purchase school uniforms than it is to buy new school clothes every year.  We are wearing the assigned colors for The American Heritage School.  The boys are wearing either a red polo or a white polo with navy shorts or navy pants.  I purchase their uniforms from The Children's Place.  So far, I have found that they have the best prices.  For this year, I purchased them each four tops and four pairs of shorts. And Friday is college day so they get to wear their favorite college shirt!  I got this idea from the public school that they attended.  My six year old will wear a shirt from The University of Tennessee and my seven year old will wear a BYU shirt.  I love this idea to get them excited about college!

Today's free mini lesson from The American Heritage Family School is about the National Day of Prayer, which is today.  I am looking forward to learning about this with my children!  You can access it here.

Have a wonderful day!
